Simpson Furniture is 1st in Value, 1st in Quality, 1st in Service.
Simpson Furniture takes its name from founder R.L. Simpson who moved to
Cedar Falls from Des Moines in 1946. Already an experienced furniture
retailer, Simpson purchased what was known as the old Brown Furniture
Company building located in the middle of the 500 block on Main Street,
Cedar Falls. The seed for what would become Cedar Valleys largest
furniture business was planted.
In 1948, David Sandvold joined Simpson. Sandvold and Simpson led the store
through a growth period into the early 60's, a time at which current chairman
of the company, David Olson, joined the ranks. The 70s saw Simpson
Furniture grow to fill an entire city block in downtown Cedar Falls.
During the late 1970s, Simpson retired. Left at the helm were Sandvold
as president of the company and David Olson. Under their leadership, new
product lines were added, area population growth took off and word spread
that Simpson Furniture had what every new couple and mature family needed
to furnish their homes. Sales increased along with the number of employees.
The hopes of continued growth and rewards of hard work and dedication
from Simpson Furniture owners and employees were daunted in 1983 when
fire ravaged the building. Faced with a total structural loss, many residents
and Simpson Furniture employees questioned whether Simpson would rebuild
in downtown Cedar Falls or relocate.
As other businesses migrated to University Avenue, Simpsons decided to
fight the exodus of businesses from the heart of downtown Cedar Falls
and instead build a new and even larger store at the very location they
had occupied since 1946.

In October, 1983, Simpson Furniture celebrated the grand opening of a
30,000 sq. ft. showroom. They were primed for rapid growth and in 1984,
Dale Emmert, the current company president was brought on board with Olson
and Sandvold.
Throughout the 90s, Simpsons continued to spiral to the top
of the areas furniture businesses to become the largest furniture
operation in the Cedar Valley.
In 1996, fellow employees and area citizens mourned the death of David
Sandvold, then C.E.O. of the company. Having spent nearly five decades
building the "Simpson Tradition of Excellence" his legacy of
service and quality live on even today.
Olson and Emmert, made bold moves with new visions of growth and opportunity.
In 1998, a second store at 2300 Main Street in Cedar Falls was opened.
An additional 20,000 sq. ft. of showroom space now housed. Simpsons
Factory Outlet store, offering a completely different selection of furniture,
mattresses and carpet remnants to area shoppers.
Today, over 62 years from Simpson Furnitures opening in the Brown
Furniture building, the tradition of operating as a locally owned company
adds to the flavor of family one feels when shopping Simpsons. Its
known across the Cedar Valley as the store that treats you like family
and
thats easy because the Simpson team is a family.
